Located within the bolt assembly, the AR-10 extractor is an essential component that aids in the completion of the firing sequence, as it is resposible for extracting spent cartridges from the chamber of the rifle and readying it for ejection from the receiver by the ejector. This is accomplished as the bolt carrier group is cycled back and forth between each discharge, pushed to the rear by expanding propellant gases and thrust forward by the buffer extractor and recoil spring. The AR-10 extractor is secured withing the bolt assembly via the extractor pin.
